Sequel to earlier reports of Ekuigbo Primary School not having learning desks in classrooms, another #SaveOurPrimarySchools alarm has been raised by Comr. Ibebe Rufus condemning the deplorable and poor state of learning of the Iwreko Primary School, Ughelli.

The Iwhreko Primary School which is now a shadow of it’s former self, apart from having structures not worthy to house chickens as a poultry, is constantly flooded with children swimming in gutter waters unattended to.

Recently, I received a call from a brother and former pupils of Iwhreko Primary School, located in Ughelli, Ughelli North, LGA of Delta state, Dr. Joseph Orekereke who informed me of the deplorable and poor state of the learning environment of the school, where he once learned as a pupil.

The pictures he sent to me, (which are now attached to this post), showed the deplorable state of the school environment that has been covered with water and the dilapidated school structures that would be experiencing total collapse any moment from now.

As a concerned Nigerian and advocate for a better society of which the school environment is part of, I quickly sent some of my aides to the venue who confirmed the truthfulness of the pictures as well as gave other valid description of the situation to me.

I therefore, wish to humbly call on the state and local government led by Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa and Hon. Adode Godwin respectively, the member representing Ughelli North constituency I in DTHA, Prince Eric Oharisi, Ministry of Education, all old pupils of the school, NGO, relevant agencies and all well spirited individuals in the society, to please come to the aide of the students.

Equally, I wish to passionately call on the Catholic church most especially, SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church Ughelli, which is located in the same premise with the school to please help in doing the needful. That the church, has a very conducive passage into it’s building with modern facilities building and children have to swim before entering their dilapidated school building behind the church is not something that protract the love and giving to the society that is preached inside the church.

All I plead for on behalf of the pupils are; sand filling of the school environment to prevent flooding, renovation of the many dilapidated structures in the school and provision of desk for the pupils to aide effective learning in the school.

The school, I can attest, have wonderful staff and pupils and any help rendered to them, would be highly rewarded by God and appreciated by staff and pupils.

This is a humble plead from a humble Nigerian who want the good of the society.

Am Comrade Ibebe Rufus Akpobome
