The Zamfara Police Command on Wednesday confirmed that 16 of its personnel had been killed within the Nov. 29 conflict between the command and bandits within the state.
The conflict was sequel to a raid on criminals’ hideouts within the state by the police throughout which 104 bandits had been killed by policemen.
The dying of the policemen was confirmed in an announcement in Gusau by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Muhammad Shehu, a Superintendent of Police.
Shehu debunked media report that 50 policemen had been killed within the assault.
According to him, on Nov. 29, 2018, there was critical onslaught on bandits by the police which resulted within the killing of 104 bandits.
He mentioned in course of the confrontation, 36 policemen received lacking after which 16 of them had been discovered useless and 20 recovered alive.

“After search and rescue operations launched into by police Joint Intervention Force to rescue the lacking policemen following the heavy assault on the bandits, 16 cops had been discovered useless whereas the remaining 20 had been rescued alive.
“Over 50 bandits’ hideouts in three camps had earlier been destroyed while over 500 cattle and 79 sheep were recovered from the bandits,” Shehu mentioned.
He mentioned that Police Special Forces Personnel, Counter-Terrorism Unit, Police Mobile Force, Federal Special Anti-Rubbery Search personnel, with three surveillance patrol police helicopters, had been deployed to the state.
“The Police Joint Intervention Force operations within the state below the command of the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Operations, are making progress.
“There is critical ongoing operation by the police to root-out the remnants of armed bandits and different prison components within the recognized hideouts within the state.
“The Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, condoled the households of the deceased policemen.
“He directs a befitting burial for the gallant officers, immediate processing and cost of life assurance advantages and different entitlements to their households.
“The IGP is saddened with the dying of the gallant officers whom he described as heroes of the pressure.
“Their demise is a superb loss to Nigeria Police Force and our expensive nation. The supreme worth they paid for the safety and security of the nation won’t be in useless.
“In spite of this unfortunate situation, the police will not relent in efforts at ensuring that armed banditry and other crimes are brought to the end in Zamfara and Nigeria at large,” he mentioned.
